September Prayer Guide

September Prayer Calendar

Theme: Living our City Awakening Code

Each week, use this 7-day cycle of Scripture and prayer to guide your time with the Lord. In the next week, start back with Day 1. As you pray, ask God to form these values not merely into things we do, but into who we are becoming as followers of Jesus.

Day 1 – Prayer

Prayer is our first response, and continual response.

  • Philippians 4:6-7
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Pray: Begin your day by bringing everything to God. Before you respond to your circumstances, respond to God. Ask Him to make prayer your instinct rather than your last resort. Pray for your family, your church, your city, and the people who need Jesus. Ask God to teach you to remain in continual conversation with Him throughout your day.

Day 2 – Biblical Authority

We will read the Bible and let the Bible read us.

  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

  • Pray: Open God's Word today with a willingness not simply to learn, but to be changed. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal where your life is out of alignment with God's truth. Pray for a hunger for Scripture and the humility to obey what God reveals. Ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me, and what will I do about it?”

Day 3 – Gospel Saturation

The Gospel is more than a way of life; the Gospel is our life.

  • Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

  • Pray: Thank Jesus that the Gospel isn't simply something you believed once—it is the reality by which you live every day. Confess the ways you try to find identity, worth, security, or satisfaction apart from Christ. Preach the Gospel to yourself today: Jesus has loved you, died for you, forgiven you, and made you His own. Ask Him to shape every part of your life around that truth.

Day 4 – Diversity

The Gospel is our common ground.

  • Ephesians 2:13-14
“But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility.”

  • Pray: Thank God that Jesus creates a family that is bigger than our backgrounds, preferences, personalities, and differences. Ask Him to reveal any barriers, biases, or assumptions that keep you from loving people well. Pray that City Awakening would be a place where people who are different from one another are united by something greater—Jesus. Ask God to help you move toward people who are different from you.

Day 5 – Community

Love a few so we can love the many.

  • Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other…”

  • Pray: Thank God that He never intended for you to follow Jesus alone. Ask Him to give you a few people with whom you can be honest, vulnerable, encouraged, challenged, and changed. Pray for your small group, your closest friendships, and the people God has placed around you. Ask, “Who needs me to move toward them?” Then take a step toward someone today.

Day 6 – Multiplication

Multiplication isn’t an option; it’s a must.

  • Matthew 28:19-20
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.”

  • Pray: Jesus didn't simply call us to follow Him; He called us to help others follow Him. Ask God to show you someone you can encourage, disciple, invest in, or invite into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Pray that our church would continually raise up new leaders, new disciples, new groups, and new churches. Ask God to use your life to reproduce the life of Christ in someone else.

Day 7 – Generosity

Living contently, giving generously, to reach more missionally.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.”

  • Pray: Thank God for everything He has entrusted to you—your time, money, abilities, relationships, influence, and possessions. Ask Him to expose places where you've allowed what you have to become what you trust. Pray for contentment with what God has given you and generosity with what He has entrusted to you. Ask, “Lord, how can what you've given me be used to reach more people with the Gospel?”
