May Prayer Guide

MAY PRAYER GUIDE

THEME: Praying for Our Country and Leaders

Incorporate the following prayer prompts into your daily prayer time.

Day 1Discover | Romans 13:1-2 Ask God to reveal His sovereignty over earthly

authority. Reflect on how you’ve seen God work through leaders, even imperfect ones,

throughout history and in your own life. Where have you seen His hand in your city or

community recently?

Day 2Discover | Proverbs 21:1 Pray for fresh eyes to see your local leaders (mayor,

city council, school board) as people made in God’s image who need wisdom and

grace. Ask God to soften any cynicism in your heart toward those in authority.

Day 3 Deepen | Jeremiah 29:7 Ask God to deepen your investment in your

community. Pray for the peace and prosperity of your city: its schools, neighborhoods,

and vulnerable populations. Where is God calling you to be part of the answer?

Day 4Deepen | Proverbs 11:14 Pray for godly counsel to surround your local and

state leaders. Ask God to raise up men and women of integrity in government, and to

remove corruption where it has taken root.

Day 5 Display | Matthew 5:13-16 Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to be salt and

light in your civic life — voting, serving, engaging. Pray for courage to speak truth

graciously in public conversations about local issues.

Day 6Display | 1 Peter 2:13-17 Pray for opportunities to model respectful

engagement with government to those around you — especially in an era of division.

Ask God to use your posture toward authority as a witness to unbelievers.

Day 7 Discipleship | 1 Timothy 2:1-4 This week, pray by name for three leaders in

your life — a local official, a school leader, and someone in your workplace or church.

Write their names down and commit to praying for them through the end of May.

Consider sending one of them an encouraging note.

Day 8 Discover | Daniel 2:20-21 Ask God to reveal His perspective on national

leadership. Meditate on the truth that He raises up and removes rulers. Where do you

need to surrender anxiety about the direction of your country to His sovereignty?

Day 9Discover | Psalm 33:12 Pray for a deeper understanding of what it looks like

for a nation to be truly blessed by God. Not just prosperous, but righteous and just. Ask

God to reveal where your expectations of government have displaced your dependence

on Him.

Day 10Deepen | Isaiah 1:17 Ask God to deepen your concern for those most

affected by national policy like the poor, the immigrant, the orphan, the elderly. Pray for

legislators to have genuine compassion and wisdom in crafting just laws.

Day 11Deepen | Proverbs 29:2 Pray specifically for the President, Congress, and

the Supreme Court. Ask God to grant each branch wisdom, restraint, and a fear of the

Lord. Pray against pride, corruption, and the abuse of power.

Day 12Display | Romans 12:18 Ask God to make you a peacemaker in politically

charged conversations. Pray for the ability to hold firm convictions with a spirit of

humility and love and for opportunities to model that to friends and family who are

discouraged or angry.

Day 13 Display | Micah 6:8 Pray for the courage to advocate for justice and mercy in

your sphere, not just in words, but in action. Ask God to align your priorities as a citizen

with what He calls His people to care about.

Day 14Discipleship | Romans 13:6-7; Matthew 22:21 Take 30 minutes this week to

look up your U.S. Senators and Representative. Read about one current bill or issue

they’re working on. Pray specifically and informedly for their work. If you feel led, contact

their office with a respectful, grace-filled message on an issue you care about. Civic

engagement is discipleship.

Day 15Discover | Psalm 2:1-4, 10-12 Ask God to expand your view of His global

kingdom. Pray for eyes to see where He is at work among the nations even in places of

conflict and chaos. Ask Him to deepen your trust that He is not absent from the world

stage.

Day 16Discover | Acts 17:26-27 Reflect on the reality that God has set boundaries

and times for every nation so that people might seek and find Him. Pray for a heart that

longs for every nation to know Christ, not just to be politically stable.

Day 17Deepen | Psalm 10:17-18 Pray for the oppressed around the world. Those

who are living under authoritarian regimes, those fleeing war, those without access to

clean water, food, or safety. Ask God to deepen your global awareness and your

willingness to respond.

Day 18Deepen | Isaiah 58:6-7 Pray for international aid organizations, missionaries,

and men and women working in crisis zones. Ask God to provide resources, protection,

and open doors. Pray that His people would be the most generous and sacrificial

presence in every place of suffering.

Day 19Display | John 17:21 Pray for the global Church to be visibly unified in its

response to the world’s crises. That its love and service would be a witness to nations

and leaders. Ask God to use your church’s generosity and mission involvement as a

display of His kingdom.

Day 20Display | Isaiah 52:7 Ask God for boldness to talk about global concerns

through the lens of the gospel. Pray for opportunities to share with others particularly

younger generations why Christians should care about justice, peace, and the nations.

Day 21Discipleship | Psalm 67:1-2 Reflect on the persecuted Church in Africa or

the unrest and war in the Middle East. Bring it to your small group, family dinner table,

or a friend. Pray together. Consider giving sacrificially toward a missionary or relief effort

in these specific areas as a tangible act of kingdom citizenship.

Day 22Discover | Isaiah 61:1-3 Ask God to reveal where His heart breaks for your

generation. Consider the specific injustices, cultural wounds, and societal fractures He

is grieved by. Pray for the ability to see the world through His eyes, not just your own

political or cultural background.

Day 23Discover | Lamentations 3:22-23 Pray for fresh awareness of God's

faithfulness in a world that feels unstable. Ask Him to quiet your fear about cultural

trends and to renew your confidence in His new mercy every morning.

Day 24Deepen | Proverbs 31:8-9, 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Pray for Christians in positions of

influence: in politics, law, medicine, education, media, and business. Pray for them to

speak up for the voiceless with wisdom and courage. Ask God to deepen your own

willingness to use whatever platform He’s given you for His purposes.

Day 25Deepen | John 15:13 Pray with gratitude and grief for the men and women

who have given their lives in military service. Lift up by name any service members you

know who are currently deployed or in harm’s way. Ask God to protect them, strengthen

them, and remind them that they are not forgotten.

Day 26 Display | 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 Pray for the Church to be a clear, compelling

voice of reconciliation in a polarized culture. Ask God to make City Awakening, and you

personally, known more for what you’re for than what you’re against.

Day 27 Display | Matthew 5:9 Ask God for opportunities to be a peacemaker in

genuinely divided spaces in your life like a family gathering, a workplace conversation,

or a neighborhood disagreement. Pray for the Spirit’s wisdom to know when to speak

and when to simply love well.

Day 28Discipleship | Ephesians 6:18 Gather your household, small group, or a few

friends for a focused 15–20 minute prayer time specifically for government and world

events this week. Use a current news source and a Bible passage side by side. Practice

praying informed and faith-filled (not anxious or partisan) prayers together. Model what it

looks like to be a church that intercedes for the world.

Day 29Deepen | Revelation 11:15 Pray with eschatological hope. The kingdoms of

this world will one day become the kingdom of our God. Ask God to fix your eyes on

that ultimate reality as you navigate the noise of today’s politics and headlines.

Day 30Deepen | James 1:27 Pray about issues surrounding the family like foster

care, poverty, addiction, and fatherlessness in your community. Ask God to deepen your

church’s practical ministry to vulnerable families. Where might He be calling you

personally to step in?

Day 31Commission | 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Return to where you started. Pray for all who

are in authority. Ask God what He is calling you to carry forward from this month. For

example, a name to keep praying, a cause to pursue, a posture to maintain. Commit to

being a person of prayer for the world He created and loves.
