Who is Jesus?
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5)
The Bible teaches us that Jesus is one with God. He was present and actively involved in creation, and when he came to earth he was both fully God and fully man. This is important because it means he is not just another prophet or teacher. People everywhere recognize the morality of Jesus’ teachings, but we can’t accept his teaching and reject his claim of deity. C.S. Lewis said, “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.” Lewis chose to believe he was the Son of God.
Why Does Jesus Matter?
Why should we care about Jesus? Because of his divine nature, Jesus was the only person that could live a sinless life and become a sacrifice sufficient to pay the price for the sins of humanity.
“He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
But did humanity need this? Are we sinners? The Bible teaches us that every person sins and falls short of the perfection of God. Even the most morally upright person among us does not live a perfect life. Unfortunately, there is no room in God’s holy nature for sin. It goes against His very being, but He loves His creation, the people made in His image. So, from the beginning of time he had a plan for saving His people. He sent His Son, Jesus, to become a sacrifice in our place. Jesus took the death penalty that we deserve. On the cross, the wrath of God was satisfied and we were given access to God. In Jesus, there is nothing you could do to make God love you more, and nothing you have done that makes God love you less.
What Does Jesus Mean For My Future?
Jesus died on the cross, but he didn’t stay in the grave. He rose to life! This miracle showed that Jesus had conquered death. When we put our trust in Jesus, we have hope that sin and all the painful effects of sin will not last forever. When Jesus left earth he said that he was going to prepare a place for those who believe in him. This earth is a temporary stop on the timeline of eternity. Our bodies will all pass away. But when our hope is in Jesus, we can have a lasting peace knowing that our souls will live with God in eternity. Those who reject this will spend eternity in hell, apart from God. This takes the pressure off of pursuing personal success, wealth, and happiness. We will never fully achieve those things on this earth. Instead we believe that God’s presence and approval are all we need for everlasting joy.
Do You Believe In Jesus?
Are you ready to find a peace and joy that cannot be found in anyone or anything else? This gift of grace is available to all people. Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church. It is putting your complete trust in Jesus. The Bible says, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
To believe in Jesus Christ is to believe He died for your sin and rose up from the dead. To believe in Jesus Christ is to accept Him as your Savior and submit to him as King. To believe in Jesus is to leave behind your old way of life and follow him. You can do this right now by turning to Him and by talking to Him:
Forgive me Lord Jesus. I sin. It has separated me from You. It has left me empty and disconnected. I believe You paid the penalty for my sin. You suffered and died in my place on the Cross. Please take control of my life. Fill me with Your presence. Change me from the inside out. I accept You as the only way to connect with God the Father. Thank you for this overwhelming gift of forgiveness and connectedness to You forever.
